This automated system aims to take down or demonetize content that does not fall between YouTube’s guidelines. However, this system “doesn’t work perfectly for every settings”.
While this might not affect bigger, already established creators, it is the smaller up and coming creators that are suffering from those changes. The period of time in which a new video makes its money is fairly short. Generally, the bigger part of ad revenue comes within the first 24 to 48 hours of the release of a video.
Long story short; Because of the nature of content on YouTube, if a video gets flagged for demonetization by mistake and the situation is resolved in a few days (it can take up to 2 weeks), the creator/publisher will get almost no revenue on that content.
